After getting roughed up by St. Mary's last week 6-1 and 12-1, the Bulldog Frosh/Soph team played a great game today to get a win. "It was likely our best game of the year," said Coach Muniz. "We had no errors."
This was a competitive battle between two teams that came down to the last pitch. The Frosh/Soph were joined by Tony Romero, Wyatt Irwin, and Kayden Mattos to help even the field vs St. Mary's.
Jace Johnson started on the mound for the Dogs and pitched well through three innings but he could not continue on the mound in the 4th due to receiving an injury batting in the top of the 4th. Wyatt Brandt came in for middle relief and Bryce Correll got the win pitching the final 2 2/3 innings.
In the 3rd inning, Bryce Correll, Wyatt Irwin, and Jack Karle all scored to give Tracy a 3-1 lead. The Rams responded with two runs of their own to tie the game 3-3 after three innings.
Dylan Giannini scored a run in the top of the 4th to give Tracy a temporary lead. The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the 5th.
Trailing 7-5 in the top of the 6th, Tracy was able to go through their entire batting lineup with Irwin, Karle, Tony Romano all scoring runs to take a 8-7 lead which they would hold with good pitching and defense.
Muniz highlighted the at bats of Derek Bogetti, Bryce Correll and Dylan Giannini. "Derek had a couple of hits, Bryce hit the ball hard and got two hits, and Dylan collected three RBIs in the 6th inning to bring us back."
Coach Muniz was moved by the actions of his assistant coaches. "Jason Martinez is my assistant coach and his son Chase also coaches for us. Jason just lost his dad (Chase's grandfather) and in the midst of all they are going through, they made a commitment to be here with us today and coach. I know the kids were touched by that as well as was I. I told the team postgame that Mr. Martinez who loved this game very much was looking down on us today and smiling."

Bryce Correll started for Tracy and pitched well unfortunately errors in the field did not support the pitching he delivered. Many of the Rams runs early in the game came with 2 outs.
Strategically, the Bulldog defense picked two runners off. One at first and the other when Correll faked to 3rd and had the runner at first leaning way off the bag.
Tracy put three runners on base in the first but did not deliver on the scoreboard. It was not until the 4th inning that Derek Bogetti got on base and scored to give Tracy their sole run of the game.
Tracy Frosh/Soph will take a break and play the final game at St. Mary's next Wednesday.
Tracy took the lead in the first inning of this game at St. Mary's when Bryce Correll reached base on a hard ground ball to 3rd and eventually scored. The Rams started their comeback immediately answering with a run in the first. The Rams added on in the 3rd and pushed well ahead in the 4th with four runs.
The Rams pitching was effective in getting 15 Bulldog strikeouts which was key factor in keeping the bases relatively empty for Tracy in the final six innings.
"We had one bad inning where we booted the ball around making every type of error and giving them four runs," said Coach Muniz. "Other than that we did not play too bad but faced an excellent St. Mary's team with quality pitching. I was real pleased with Jace Johnson on the mound. He gave up 3 hits and had 7 strikeouts. Wyatt Irwin through the last inning for us," said Muniz.

Jace Johnson took the mound for Tracy today and pitched exceptionally well versus a solid Lincoln team giving up just a single hit through 6 innings. "This was the fourth game Jace has thrown," said Coach Muniz. "He is fearless on the mound and frankly would pitch complete games if it were not for the pitch count. The future is really bright for this kid."
Lincoln got their sole run in the top of the first inning. "We booted some balls and frankly I thought it was going to be a long game at that point," said Muniz.
Tracy was able to take a 2-1 lead in the 2nd inning with two runs by Wyatt Irwin and Johnson.
The Tracy defense gave Lincoln a chance to get back in the game, but the Bulldogs immediately cleaned it up and shutdown the threat. Tracy also generated a couple of key double plays between Dylan Giannini (SS) to Derrick Bogetti (1B) and Bogetti to Nick Chang (3B).
Mark Anzo came on in the 5th to hit a big double and was pinched run for by Josh Giuliacci who would score to make it 3-1 . Giuliacci was able to get to 3rd on a sac bunt by Correll and then Bogetti safety squeezed him in.
Dylan Giannini came on to efficiently close out the game and secure the 2nd league victory for the Bulldogs.
Wyatt Irwin will get his first start on the mound Friday to conclude the Lincoln series.
FroshSoph won 12-5
"Joshua Giuliacci pitched three great innings for us and kept us in the game. Rodney Riehl and Bryce Correll had two hits each. This was a complete team effort. I'm proud of these boys and look forward to our home game on Monday, " said Coach Ted Muniz.
With no score entering the third, Lincoln put three runs on the board in the top half. Corell, Derek Bogetti, Mark Anzo, Wyatt Irwin, Jace Johnson, Jack Karle, and Riehl all came in to score in the bottom of the inning to give Tracy a 7-3 lead.
Giuliacci came in to relieve Corell in the 4th. Lincoln managed one run in the 4th, but Johnson and Karle each scored to give Tracy a 9-4 lead. Lincoln would get one more run across in the 5th, but Tracy was not done on offense.
Dylan Giannini came in in to close the game and was supported by good defense. Johnson scored one run in the 6th, and Giannini and Derrick Bogetti each scored in the 7th to finish off the Trojans 12-5.
Wyatt Irwin took the mound Thursday afternoon for his first high school start and was rewarded with a win throwing 4 innings, striking out 8 and only allowing 3 hits. Jack Karle (first appearance as well) threw one inning sending two back to the dugout on strikeouts.
Tracy jumped out to an early 3-0 lead which they never relinquished with good pitching, defense and add-on offense. They would keep Modesto scoreless through the majority of the game as they steadily increased their lead in each inning. The Mercy Rule was invoked once the Bulldogs led 11-1.
Offensive standouts were:
Dylan Giannini 2-3, 2RBI
Bryce Correll 2-2, 2 RBIs

No fooling around here as Tracy took a stomach punch of a loss 10-0 at Lincoln. Lincoln jumped out to a a quick 3-0 lead in the first and continued to build upon it. "I'll take the blame for not having this team ready to play today," said Coach Ted Muniz. "We lost in most every aspect of the game and only produced one hit." Lincoln would go on to score one run in the 3rd, four in the 4th, and two more late in the game.
Coach Muniz did say he liked the effort put forward by pitchers Wyatt Irwin, Bryce Correll, and Joshua Giuliacci. Correll had several good defensive plays from the mounding fielding his position and making the out at first.
Tracy went 2-3 vs Lincoln and now prepares for two games next week vs the always tough St. Mary's.
Game 1 - Lodi 10 - Tracy 5
Coach Martinez commented on the losses postgame. "We had some mental and physical mistakes in each game. The errors kept our pitchers (Wyatt Irwin and Josh Giuliacci) out there longer than they should have been. Bryce Correll went 3-4 with 3 singles. Kyle Ettinger went 1-1, with a double, walk and scored three times."
Game 2 - Lodi 9 - Tracy 2
Coach Martinez complimented the Lodi pitching staff. "They had good off speed stuff that kept us off balance. I wish we had been more aggressive at the plate. We took too many called third strikes, most of which were off speed."
Bryce Correll started on the mound. Martinez liked what he saw from Nick Chang who gave Tracy two scoreless innings and kept the Lodi batters off balance. Colton Hoff was 1-3 with run scored."
