VARSITY FINISH FIRST HALF 5-6

Liberty 2|0|2|0|1|1|X|  6 |  8  | 1

Josh Verduzco and Leland Freitas were the only Bulldogs to get a hit on Friday at Liberty and that came in the first inning.  After that the Bulldog bats were very quiet in the final game before league starts at home on Monday vs St. Mary's.

Coaches Comments:

"On the mound, Brady and Juan did what we needed them to do. Defensively, we have to make plays when they are presented to us.  We made too many physical and mental errors against a good team to give ourselves a chance at winning."

"Offensively, we need to be much better.  The staff will make sure guys understand and can buy into a better offensive approach than we’ve shown the last two games."

The Dogs had several opportunities to take total control of this game, but numerous stranded runners prevented the Dogs from closing this out in just 7 innings.  Instead, this game would grind through 11 innings until the Bulldogs received a clutch hit with 1 out from Isaiah McIntyre and then a single up the middle by Leland Freitas to score McIntyre with the winning run.

Key to this extra inning victory would be the perfect relief work of Logan Contreras in innings 9 - 11 to keep the Cardinals off the bases.  Alfonso Silveria-Marquez started the game for 4 innings and then Noah Richardson came in for another 4 to limit the Laguna Creek run total to just 4 through 8 innings.

The Bulldogs would get their first run in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game when Brady Brown led off with a triple.  Jordan Alvarado would score Brown on a Sac Bunt.  Tracy would take a 4-3 lead in the 5th when Leland Freitas singled to lead off the inning followed by Jacoby Freitas who also singled.  Juan Godoy would Sac the runners 90 feet allowing Josh Verduzco to step to the plate and hammer a ball to right field plating Freitas, Freitas, and Godoy.

Tracy looked to close out the game in the top of the 7th with a 4-3 lead but with 2 outs, the Cardinals were able to manufacture a run to tie the game.

The Dogs had 2 on and 1 out in the bottom of the 7th, but a double play ball would propel this game into 4 more innings of ball waiting for McIntyre and L. Freitas to win it.

Coaches Comments:

It was a big win for us today," said Coach Mac. "Congratulations to the boys, they work really hard, and I’m glad they got to celebrate a win today."

"Our arms did a nice job today keeping us in the game and giving us a chance. Noah and Logan were outstanding today. I was really impressed with how both of these guys are developing on the mound."

"Offensively, I think we’re better than we showed today. We had some guys step up and give us big at-bats when we needed - that’s important. We need to execute better, top to bottom, both at the plate and on the bases. I’m confident our boys will learn from today and be better going forward."

"There is a lot to learn from every game, and today is no different. We enjoy tonight and then turn the page and get better tomorrow."

The 5-4 Dogs will host Franklin on Friday.

The Bulldogs played one of their best games of the year Saturday en route to a 7-4 victory over Amador Valley.  A lot of little things were done well on the field today and the energy in the dugout and on the field was maintained at a high level for all 7 innings.

Brady Brown provided excellent starting pitching keeping Amador Valley in check through the first 4 innings.  Juan Godoy came in and prevented Amador from getting back into the game until they mounted a small surge in the 7th which Godoy would extinguish.

The win put Tracy back at .500 (4-4) as they prepare to close out the first half of the season next week with home games vs Laguna Creek and Franklin.

    Coaches Postgame Comments:

"I’m really happy for the boys today. They earned a big win against a really good program."

"Brady was lights out on the mound and did an excellent job setting the tone for us. Juan came in and did exactly what we needed from a bullpen perspective and helped us close things out."

"All week, Leland  has helped us unlock some big innings with timely bunts and hit-and-runs. That’s unselfish baseball — doing the little things that might not always show up in the box score but are necessary for the team’s success."

"My challenge to the guys has been simple: bring 100% energy and 100% effort from everyone. Today, there was a rhythm and a feel to the game.  The guys stepped up, embraced the challenge, and competed from start to finish. Hats off to them for the way they showed up."

Tracy got excellent pitching on Friday from Lane Wortham and Noah Richardson to limit the Titans to just 3 hits and 1 run.  On the offense several bats lit up to propel Tracy to a big win and bump their record closer to .500 at 3-4.  The Dogs can get even tomorrow when they host Amador Valley at 11 a.m.

Jordan Alvarado had the biggest day at the plate and helped conclude the game with a 3-4 day and 4 RBIs.  He would triple in the 6th to end the game at the 10 run rule.  He also doubled earlier.  Jaxson Rocha was dialed in with the bat and behind the dish.  Jaxson would go 2-3 with 2RBIs and threw a runner out.  Leland Freitas was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and Brady Brown tripled in the first inning to right field.

I was really proud of the effort today and the guys got back in the win column and showed some resiliency," said Coach Mac. "The highlight for me was the two sophomores who came up and pitched for us.  They were attacking the zone, had great tempo, kept us ahead, and made the pitches we called.  They just did a wonderful job."

"I still think there is another level for us as a team as far as energy and effort but collectively we were better considering where we came from earlier in the week."

"Tomorrow I want to see guys come out early and compete.  It's about maintaining.  I saw high energy in the dugout today and I want to see the same energy from start to finish on Saturday.  I want our guys pulling for each other and playing Bulldog baseball."

Wednesday afternoon looked promising in Turlock for the Bulldogs as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but the Turlock bats began to chip away at the Tracy lead which by the 2nd inning was only a slim 6-5 advantage.   As the game moved into the middle and late innings, it was all Pitman as they would produce 11 more runs to defeat the Dogs 16-8.

      Coaches Postgame Comments

"It was a tough one today at Pitman," said Coach Mac as he rolled back towards Tracy Wednesday night.  "Our pitchers performed better than the box score displays, but seven defensive errors made it difficult to stay in the game."

"The staff felt, at times, that our guys quit on each other, and that's something we have to address.  We also let some things outside of our control, like umpire calls, distract us from how we need to play.  The bigger lesson is about energy and playing for each other.  When things are going well, we're locked in, but good teams stay together and keep competing when adversity hits.  That's the standard we're working toward."

The Bulldogs now 2-4 enter a home friendly stretch of the early season as they will play the next 4 games through March 13th at home (Skyline, Amador Valley, Laguna Creek, and Franklin).

Down six runs early, Tracy did not fold and would begin to work their way back in the game with a chance to flip the game in the top of the 7th, but they fell just a little short.

Leland Freitas was 3-4 with a RBI in the game.  Jacoby Freitas doubled, and Juan Godoy had 2RBIs.

"It was a tough loss this afternoon" said Coach Mac.  "There were a few bright spots, and I like the fact that the boys fought back from an early deficit.  Collectively,  I don’t think we did enough of the little things to give ourselves a chance to win. I take full responsibility for that and will do a better job of making sure everyone understands what it will take for us to be competitive in all 7 innings of every game."

Varsity now 2-3, will practice Saturday at 9 a.m. as they prepare for 3 games next week.  Wednesday at Pitman, Friday home vs Skyline, and Saturday home vs Amador Valley.

Josh Verduzco would lead the offense with a 2-3, 5 RBI day that included a triple as the Bulldogs came back to life to draw their record even at 2-2.  Jaxson Rocha also had 2 hits on the day.  Juan Godoy who just joined the team from Basketball had a 3 RBI day scoring twice.  Anthony Crivello was praised by the coaching staff for his at bats as he ended the day 1-3 with a RBI double.

The pitching staff of Alfonso Silveria-Marquez and Arjun Kalirai limited the Tigers to 6 hits, 1 run, and 1 walk.  Behind the pitchers was a defense that played errorless ball.

        Postgame Coaches Corner

"Congratulations to the players for finding a way to come together and get back to the win column," said Coach Mac.  "They did an excellent job on Wednesay."

"Josh led the charge offensively and ended the game by using the whole field to drive the ball to the gap.  I  thought Jacoby did a nice job extending innings (3 walks on the day)  and Juan, Jordan, Jaxson, and Anthony had big hits for us.  Several guys had quality at-bats and I think we have the potential to continue to improve offensively."

"Alfonso and Arjun did a nice job on the mound."

        "Congratulations again to the players."

It was another tough game for the Varsity who are off to a 1-2 start for their season.  In this game they would see a disastrous 3rd inning unfold where the Mustangs slowly put up 8 runs.  The Bulldog bats remained in the bat rack until the bottom of the 4th when Jaxson Rocha punched an opposite field single to get on base.  The Bulldogs would only produce one run in the game when Alfonso Silveria-Marquez singled in the 5th and Jacoby Freitas doubled to centerfield to score AJ Saenz who was pinch running.

"It was a tough loss for us, but I extend my congratulations to Mountain House who took us down," said Coach Mac postgame.  "We have to figure out who we want to be as a team.  I know my coaching staff and I will work harder to figure out how to be better prepared."

"There were a few bright spots in this game, but not many.  Games like this are an opportunity to look in the mirror and see who we want to be.  I'm excited to get back with the guys on Monday and move ahead."

"Flush it and move on to tomorrow," were the only words expressed in the postgame team meeting by the coaching staff, as the Tracy offense was flat for their home opener vs East Union on Friday.

The Bulldogs looked like they had some spark with their bats as they generated a run in the bottom of the first as Alfonso Silveria-Marquez and Brady Brown each worked a walk and then Jacoby Freitas hit a Sacrifice Fly to shallow left to score Silveria-Marquez by a thread.  After that run though the Dogs did not pose any threat to the Lancers until the bottom of the 6th when they would plate one more run.

Silveria-Marquez got the ball to start the game and would throw the first four innings giving up 3 runs on 3 hits, 1 earned run, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.  Brady Brown came in for middle relief and worked fast to deliver 2 innings of no hit ball with 4 strikeouts, but the Lancers were able to collect 2 additional runs.   Noah Sardi threw the 7th allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, and1 earned run.  Overall the Bulldogs (now 1-1) hurt themselves with 5 errors in the game.

            Coaches Postgame Press Conference;

"I thought we pitched well enough to be in the game, but our offense is better than what we showed today," said Coach Mac.  "We've got to be more competitive at the plate, and I trust we will be."

"I thought Silveria-Marquez and Brown did a nice job on the bump this afternoon.  Alfonso made several hustle plays and was everywhere on the field.  His effort was top notch and that is what I'm looking for from all of our guys."

Coach Mac and his team will get right back after it Saturday morning when they host Mountain House at 11 a.m.

              Coaches Comments:

"I'm very happy with the effort put forth today," said Coach Mac starting his 2nd season with the Bulldogs.  "Our guys played hard, competed, and played as team. Our players should be really proud of the work they’ve put in to this point of the season."

"We had some guys swing the bat really well. The loud bat today was Josh Verduzco with 3 doubles in his first three at bats. Leland Freitas really helped unlock a big inning for us early with a well placed bunt. We had multiple guys that had what we term a quality at bat and we were able to steal 4 bags on the day."

"Our pitchers did a nice job working ahead in the count and dictating the tempo for the mound. All three guys (Marquez, Kalirai, and Sardi)  competed well. I'm proud of how these guys are developing."

Tracy wasted no time taking a commanding lead in their first game when the Bulldogs loaded the bases on a walk, a fielding error, and a bunt.  Jacoby Freitas would single to right to score Alfonso Silveria-Marquez and Brady Brown.  Malakai Jacobo would then triple to score Leland Freitas and Jacoby Freitas to give Tracy a 4-0 lead.  Josh Verduzco would begin his offensive explosion on the day with with the first of three doubles that would score Jacobo and place the Bulldog lead at 5-0.

Tracy would add one more run in the 2nd on a Sac Fly by Leland Freitas that would score Silveria-Marquez who had reached earlier on an error.

Verduzco would lead off the 3rd with another double, Anthony Crivello singled to score Verduzco and then Crivello scored on a Jaxon Rocha ground ball that resulted in a fielding error.

Tracy would finish their scoring campaign in the 6th inning when Brown singled to lead off.  Leland Freitas was hit by a pitch and Jacobo walked.  Brady Brown scored on a passed ball to put Tracy up 9-2.  Crivello put the ball in play to collect a RBI.  Jacobo would score on a fielding error.  Lukas Nairn singled to score Verduzco for Tracy's 12th run.
