vs Lincoln Game 1 - Monday, April 21, 2025
Coach Tomek had to work hard at motivating his team today because at times they looked very flat coming off a week off of competitive play, however they did enough to return from an 8-3 deficit in the 5th to get back in the game and almost win it in 7 innings. They let Lincoln back in the game in the 7th and ultimately the Trojans would win it in the 8th 10-9.

Coach Tomek's Report
The Freshman Dogs traveled to Lodi to face off against the Flames for the second game of the series. In the top of the first Lukas Nairn would walk and steal second. Jullian Anderson would ground out and score Nairn.
Brock Montgomery would start on the mound for the Dawgs. The first inning started a little shaky with an error and hit batter which would set the table for Lodi. They would come through with a hit scoring both runs. That batter would come around to score as well with the Flames last hit of the inning. 3-1 Flames
Lane Wortham would reach on a lead off walk. Dylan Ibarra would single to score a run. Brayden would reach on a error and Lukas would hit a hard ground ball which was too hot for Lodi to handle and both Brayden and Dylan would score. Dawgs now on top 4-3
The lead off batter would reach safely for Lodi but the next batter would ground into a double play. The next batter would ground out as well ending the inning.
Anderson would reach safely on a error on the defense and move to second. Lane would come up next hitting a single to center and we now had runners on 1st and 3rd. Gavin would hit into a fielders choice scoring the run from third. This would be the only scoring of the inning.
The Flames would get a walk in the inning and score on some miscues from Tracy. The key play came from Richardson throwing the ball in quickly off a hit to left and the relay from Brayden Ibarra would hose Lodi at the plate. The Dawgs were on top 5-4!
In the top of the fourth. Lodi had no answers for Brock Montogmery, as they were sat down in order.
In the top of the 5th, Jullian would reach safely on an error and Brock would walk next. Lane would come up and lay down a beautiful bunt down third base and reaching safely. Gavin would hit a sacrifice fly to score Jullian. Brayden would lay down a perfect bunt loading up the bases for the Dawgs once again. Ben Diaz would hit a sacrifice fly next scoring Brock. The inning would end with the Dawgs on top 7-4.
Lodi could only get one walk in Montgomery's last inning, everyone else was sent back to the dugout. Brock ended with 5 innings of work, 4 runs, 1 earned on 4 hits, 3 walks, and 4 strikeouts.
The Dawgs would add on to their lead again when Nairn would single and moved to second on Richardsons walk. After a steal and a Sac Fly by Brock, Nairn would end up scoring. Dawgs up 8-4
Tino Contreras would come in to pitch for Tracy. Tino would give up a hit and hit a batter which would be costly for the Dawgs as both runs would score on a hit. An additional one would score on a couple of Bulldog mistakes.
The Dawgs would add on to their lead for the last time when Gavin and Ben walked and Dylan Ibarra singled loading the bases. Nairn would hit into a Fielders Choice scoring Gavin. Ben would score on a Lodi mistake making the score 10-6.
Tino would go back out for the bottom of the inning and would set them down in order. Tino would end his day with 2 innings pitched, 2 runs, 1 earned, 1 hit, 0 walks and three K’s.
This game was a bit of a grind. The guys hit the ball well but with that field and the wind we had nothing to show for it. I am proud of the way the boys battled all 7 innings and never took their foot off the gas.

Coach Tomek's Postgame Report:
Lane Wortham would start on the mound for the Dawgs. After the lead off runner would reach on an error, Lane would work hard to leave that runner out there. He produced two pop ups and snatched a hard come backer and threw the runner out at first.
The Dawgs would waste no time getting on the board in this series. After our lead runner grounded out, Wortham would get a nice line drive to the opposite field and eventually steal second. Noah Richardson would hit a ground ball and reach on an error scoring Lane. Richardson would advance to second on a pass ball. Brock Montgomery would single next scoring Richardson. Brock would make it all the way to third on some heads up baserunning but we would strand him.
Lane would get to work in the second giving up a leadoff hit and after two sacrifice bunts and a ground out. Lane would strand the runner on third.
Brayden Ibarra would lead us off with a huge double to left and Tino Contreras would walk. Runners on 1st and 2nd no outs Dylan Ibarra would lay down a beautiful bunt down third base line and reach 1st safely. Lukas Nairn would ground into a fielders choice scoring Brayden. Jullian Anderson would come up with a clutch single scoring Tino and moved Nairn to third. With runners on 1st and 3rd we would double steal scoring Nairn from third and Jullian would make his way all the way to third on the throw. The inning would end but the Dawgs were now up 5-0.
Lane still in the third would lose a little focus in the inning. After a quick 1 pitch out Lane would walk two batters and one run would score on an error. Lane would snap back into focus and get a ground ball to get out of the inning. Dawgs still ahead 5-1
Tracy would waste no time getting that run back. Brock would triple to deep centerfield and Ben Diaz would single scoring Brock. The inning would end but Dawgs are up 6-1.
In the fourth the Dawgs would commit another error and allow the leadoff runner to reach safely. Lane would again work out of this jam after getting a pop up in foul territory and striking out a batter looking. Lane would get the help of his catcher Anderson when he gunned down a Lodi baserunner trying to take third base.
The highlight of the fourth for the Bulldogs would be a Richardson single but after a couple of strikeouts and a ground out the Dawgs could not capitalize on the hit.
Lane in his final inning would get a quick out on just one pitch. After a couple of errors and a ground out Lodi would score their 2nd run of the game. With two outs Anderson would hose another runner trying to steal second.
Lane would end his day 5 innings 1 hit 2 unearned runs 3 walks and 1 strikeout leading 6-2.
In the fifth Brayden Ibarra would lead us off with a nice single to center and steal second. Jakob Gates would come in to pitch hit and hit behind the runner moving him to third and doing his job. Unfortunately, the Dawgs could not capitalize on the scoring opportunity and flew out twice to end the inning.
Caleb McCabe would enter in to pitch for Tracy. He would make short work of the Flames getting two flyouts to center and a ground out to short.
Tracy would blow the game wide open in the 6th. Wortham would lead off the inning with a walk and Anderson would be hit by the next pitch. Noah would lay down a perfect bunt down the third base side and reaching safely. Gavin Avila would get a pinch hit and ground into a fielders choice but scoring Lane. Next up Diaz would single scoring Anderson leaving runners at 1st and 3rd. Gavin would score on a wild pitch. Hector Zelaya would pinch run for Ben and steal second. Brayden Ibarra would walk setting the table for his brother Dylan to single scoring Hector and Brayden. Nairn would double scoring Dylan and putting the mercy rule into play 12-2.
Caleb would be done for the day with 1 inning no runs no hits no walks and no strikeouts.
It was a rough week for our team last week and it was really refreshing to have the boys come out like they did today. I told them this is what we are capable of. At the plate we did everything right and put the team first. We bunted, hit behind runners, and got big hits with runners in scoring position. It was a complete team effort.
The pitching was awesome again from Lane and Caleb. The only negative was the defense but we will continue to work the kinks out and get better and better each day. I'm proud of the boys on how they responded!

Coaches Report:
Lukas Nairn would lead us off with a nice line drive base hit to left. Lane would ground out to second and reach on an error by the second baseman. Two on no outs we tried to sacrifice them over with a bunt but unfortunately it would be right back at the pitcher and they would cut Nairn down advancing to third. Next batter would ground out into an inning ending double play.
Brock Montgomery would start on the bump for us. Brock would take an inning to settle in and this would be all the Rams needed in this game. Brock would would walk two and give up three hits and allow four runs. He would eventually get out of the inning and blank the Rams for the remainder of the game.
The Bulldogs (3-2) would apply pressure again in the next inning with a lead off single by Gavin Avila. Gavin would take second on the right fielders miscue. Ben Diaz would single moving Gavin to third. The next pitch Ben would steal second, and leave the Dawgs with second and third no outs. After an unfortunate strikeout Ronin would give us a line drive single to left. Gavin would get a bad read on hit and get cut down at the plate.
That was the entirety of the game for both sides in the first inning and a half of baseball. Brock would pitch his butt off and keep us in the game all the way until the end.
Brock’s line was 6 IP, 7hits, 4runs, 4walks, and 8Ks!
As a team we did a poor job of manufacturing runs. It could of easily been a tie game but we could not execute. This team is so talented and twice now in this series I think the better team lost.
We will get back to the drawing board at practice Thursday and see if we can’t figure some of this stuff out. Pitching and defense were our bright spots. Hats off to Brock for keeping us in this one!

The Bulldogs fought the Rams through 5 innings of scoreless ball before Julian Anderson tripled and and Brock Montgomery drove him home in the bottom of the 6th. With a 1-0 lead going into the 7th, the Bulldogs saw their lead quickly slip away as St. Mary's came back benefitting from a combination of walks and singles to take a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish in the bottom of the 7th.
Noah Richardson pitched extremely well for the Dogs going 6 innings with 1ER, 4 hits, 2BB, and 2Ks. Dylan Ibarra came on in late relief in the 7th.

Coach Tomek's postgame comments:
The Bulldogs traveled to Stockton to face off against the Bear Creek Bruins. Lukas Nairn would lead off the game with a triple down the line. Lane Wortham would hit a single scoring Lukas. Lane would steal second and Noah Richardson would come up with a clutch double to left scoring Lane! Noah would score on an error on the same play with the ball rolling out of play. Brock Montgomery would walk next but the Dawgs rally would be shot down by a double play on a hit run up the middle. Next batter would ground out to second ending the inning. Tracy up 3-0 going the the bottom of the inning.
Lane Wortham would start for the dawgs on the mound. Lane would strike out the first batter but walk the second. The third batter would hit leaving runners at 1st and 3rd. Lane would strike out the next batter getting us 2 outs. On the next pitch, Juju Anderson would hustle after a wild pitch and cut down the runner trying to score for the third out. The score would remain 3-0 dawgs.
The next inning would be quiet for both squads with no hits and no runs allowed by either squad.
Top of the third Noah Richardson would put a good swing on a ball but the fielder would end up catching it out in deep center. Brock would come up next with a double. Gavin Avila would hit behind his runner moving him to third but made the second out of the inning. Juju would come up clutch with a double to center scoring Brock. A ground ball would end the inning. Tracy up 4-0.
Lane would sit the Bruins down in order in the bottom half of the inning.
Top of four is when the dawgs would break this thing open. Izzy and Cruz would both hit the ball hard and reach on errors. Nairn would come up and double to left scoring both runners. Lane would move Nairn to third on a ground ball to second. Noah Richardson would double next scoring Nairn. Gavin would walk and Juju would hit a fly ball to center and reach on an error but Noah and Gavin would score. We would end up striking out to end the inning. Dawgs up 9-0!
In Lane’s final inning he would strike out two and the third batter would ground out to end the inning.
Lane ended with 4.0 IP 2 hits no runs allowed 2 walks and 7 strikeouts.
The next inning is when the wheels would fall off for the Bruins. A couple errors and walks and clutch hitting by Cruz Melton Ben Diaz and Noah Richardson the score would be 15-0 all Dawgs!
Brayden Ibarra would get his first appearance in relief and throw well. He would walk his first batter that would come around to score after a hit and an unfortunate throwing error. Brayden would end up striking out two and getting the last guy to ground out to end the game. Brayden would end with 1 IP 1 hit 1 unearned run 1 walk and 2 K’s.
It was good to get that first league win under our belt. For the most part played clean baseball and hit the ball all over the yard. I watched hitters make great adjustments at the plate and be team guys. Everything is starting to come together at the perfect time.

The Dawgs traveled to Stockton to wrap up a three game set against the Bear Creek Bruins.
We started off hot with a walk to Gavin Avila and Noah Richardson. Brayden Ibarra would get a nice base hit to left. With the bases loaded Juju Anderson would hit a double in the gap scoring all three runners.
Noah Richardson would start for the Dawgs. Noah would get the first guy to ground out but ended up walking the second batter. Noah would strike out the third batter and Ronin Medina would hammer the baserunner out trying to steal third.
The dawgs would go down in order in the second.
The bottom half of the inning the Bruins showed fight. One batter would single and the next would double scoring 1. Noah would strike out the next three batters. Dawgs up 3-1.
Next inning the boys would answer back. Gavin would reach on an error and Brayden would execute a perfect hit and run to score Gavin. Noah was up next and had a nice base hit to score Brayden. Juju would reach on an error and with heads up base running Noah would end up scoring. Carlos Franco would single next scoring Juju. Lane Wortham would single scoring Bunch who walked earlier in the inning. Tracy on top 8-1
Noah would come out one last time after hitting a guy and giving up a hit, Noah would get a couple ground balls and a punch out to end his day. Noah ended with 3 Inning 3 Hits 1 unearned run 2 walks and 5 K’s.
In the fourth is when we blew the game wide open. Tracy would load the bases again with two walks and a hit by pitch. Lane would single scoring two. Jakob Gates would single in a run in the inning. We would do a nice job in this inning scoring runs without having to get hits. After all was said and done Dawgs up 16-1.
Shaun Bunch would come in relief for the Bulldogs. Shaun would deal with some jitters and hit the first two guys but would settle in and strike a guy out and get a great double play.
Franco would open up the 5th with a huge triple down the line. Next three batters would get walked or hit. Jakob Gates would get a base hit scoring a run the rest of the inning was walks or outs resulting in runs. Dawgs would end the inning up 20-1.
Bruins would load the bases on walks and a couple unfortunate errors would lead to runs but eventually Bunch would strike out the final two batters of the game.
First series win for boys felt good. Still working on cleaning up the little things. Next week will be a great test for this team and I believe they are ready for it. Keep it rolling boys.
