Coaches Comments:
"The offense stayed hot and scored in bunches just about every inning today," said Coach Tomek. "We worked counts got big time hits and did our job! It ended up being 11-5 with six outs left in the game. It felt like we left off the gas a bit and didn’t score for the final two innings! We committed a few silly mistakes that let the Rams back into the game. Koa Maas would enter the game to get the save for the Dawgs."
"Mason Sander had a big day at the plate just missing a big fly again by inches. The whole line up contributed and helped get this first win of the three game series."
"We have all the momentum and the “Boogieman” is gone. We have to play cleaner and we have to capitalize on ALL opportunities. I am extremely proud of these dudes. We competed start to finish and I'm excited for our home game this Wednesday! Let’s keep it rolling boys!"

Coach Tomek's Postgame Comments:
"What an odd feeling stepping on the Linden High Baseball field wearing the green and gold," said Coach Tomek who played for Linden and graduated in 2008. "I’d be lying if I didn’t get a little emotional. I went up to every one of my guys and let them know I want this one."
"My guy Alex Montenegro started for us and did what he has all year long and shove! Five innings of shutout ball! His team had his back when they did put the ball in play. Makai Sibayan shut down the run game early throwing out every single runner. Eli McKeon had some awesome shortstop play and set up a pick to second beautifully."
"Logan Taylor stepped in the leadoff spot for us and did his job getting on base. Makai Sibayan destroyed a ball into left for a homer. McKeon, Taylor, Brandon and Maas sprayed the ball all over the yard and really got the job done. Big Mason Sander just missed a big fly of his own."
""It was an all around team W and we were firing on ALL cylinders! The boys showed up to play today and now we have Liberty at our place on Friday, and then we will roll this momentum into a big series against Saint Mary's to start league!"

Tracy could only produce 2 runs on 5 hits, and stranded 8 runners. They committed 4 errors in Monday's loss at Amador Valley.
Coaches Report 3-2-26
"The Bulldogs traveled to Amador Valley after a dominate win Friday. NJ started us off with a shot to right for a double. The next three batters would pop up to end the inning."
"The Dawgs battled some defensive woes all game and had a series of “Freshman” mistakes that led to an early 2-0 deficit. We would end up clawing back within one run on some defensive miscues by Amador Valley and a couple timely hits. Unfortunately, the first would not be the only inning where we would struggle defensively. I never felt like we were out matched but a few things didn’t fall our way and I felt our energy and life blow away."
"Pitchers Stevo, Koa and Alex all pitched pretty good for the most part. I’m sure there are a couple of spots they want back but they kept us close the entire game."
"We ended up stranding 8 runners on the base paths and that just won’t win you games. I felt we hit the ball extremely hard all day and a lot of them just found gloves."
"It was just a weird game all together, but I also think it was good for this group. They know what it is like to be in a Dog Fight early before we enter our super competitive league play. We have some stuff to clean up and some things to iron out. Once we get these things tightened up, this team is going to be extremely good!"

With good starting pitching being delivered by Nicholas Gutierrez, the Bulldog bats went to work quickly and took a lead they would never come close to giving up. The middle of the Tracy lineup accounted for 9 of the 16 hits in the game. Eli McKeon lead the offense with a 4-5 day collecting 4RBIs, 5 runs scored, and 3 stolen bases. Makai Sibayan had a 3 hit day with 3RBIs, 3 runs scored, a double and a stolen base. J'quhal Jaden Jackson was 2-4 with 3RBIs, and 3 bags stolen.
After Gutierrez left the game allowing only 1 run through 4 innings, Logan Taylor and Koa Maas came in for relief and kept things in check allowing the Bulldogs to win it in 6 innings.
"We started the game pretty slow, " said Coach Tomek. "I felt we were trying to do too much early on in the game instead of our typical approach of getting people on, getting them over, and finally getting them in. We battled some outside adversity having to change fields and never really warming up properly. Once we got it going though, there was no turning us back."
"The Dawgs were lead with big days from McKeon and Sibayan. Together they had 7 hits with 7 RBI’s. The boys in total collected 16 hits and once again great team effort."
"NJ Gutierrez started for us on the bump. He was really efficient early cruising through the first couple innings. The last two we tried getting too fine and ended up throwing a couple more pitches than we had to. Still a very dominate performance from him! Koa Maas would come in to slam the door and complete the run rule."
"The game finished 16-4 and we dominated all areas of the game. Some defensive stuff we have been working on, was executed to perfection. I'm proud of how the boys overcame adversity and got the W in dominate fashion."
The Freshman Dogs are now 3-0 and will travel to Amador Valley HS on Monday for their only game next week.

Coach Tomek's Game Log:
The Bulldogs traveled to Mountain House to take on the Mustangs. The offense got rolling and never looked back. NJ got a nice hit up the middle and the shortstop made a nice play but NJ’s speed was too much and forced a wild throw. Steven Olson would draw a walk next. Both would score on Makai Sibayan infield single. Like NJ, Makai's blazing speed forced a Mustang error and would make his way to third. JJ Jackson would drive him in with a hard ground ball to the right side.
Alex Montenegro would take the mound for the Dawgs. Alex would have to work through a bit of nerves after walking the lead off hitter. After that he would get a huge punch out, along with a ground ball and fly ball after giving up a single to strand two Mustangs on the base paths.
Top 2nd: Mason Sander would lead us off with a walk and steal second. Will Brandon making his debut would come up clutch with a laser through the six hole. With runners at first and third, NJ would execute a perfect hit and run scoring Mason and moving Will to third. Will would steal home on a first and third double steal.
Alex back on the mound ended up walking the lead off batter on a close 3-2 pitch but it wouldn’t matter because he ended up striking out the side in order.
Top 3rd: JJ Jackson would double on a fly ball to right and steal third. Alex worked a walk to leave the Dawgs in another first and third situation. Mason would hit an absolute missile to right. Joc would come around to score leaving runners at first and second. Alex would steal home but Sander would be thrown out at third trying to go first to third on a sleeping Mustang defense.
Alex came out fired up striking out the leadoff batter. He would relax a bit and end up walking two batters on deep counts. Alex would end up settling down striking out one and getting a ground ball to strand two more Mustang base runners. Due to it being early in the season and pitch count becoming a factor, Alex would be done for the day. Alex finished with: 3IP, 1H, 0R , 4BB, and 6 punch outs.
Top 4th: This inning would be the only time the Dawgs would take the foot off the gas and go down in order.
Santiago Diaz Rivera would come in to pitch for the Bulldogs. Santi would strike out the first batter but have to battle through some mechanical issues after hitting two batters and a couple Bulldog errors. The Mustangs would push across their first run after the blunders but Santi would settle in and get a ground out and fly ball.
Top 5th: JJ and Makai would stay hot both singling. Santi would bit behind the runners scoring Makai and JJ would use his speed and score on a passed ball. Bulldogs would end the inning up 9-1.
Santi would return to the mound for the Bulldogs. The Mustangs would put together some pressure after getting two base hits. Mountain House would score their second and final run after a fielders choice. Santi would strike out the next batter and end the inning with a pop out to third baseman Taylor.
Top 6th: Taylor started the inning with a walk and Will would get a nice base hit behind him. NJ would hit into a fielders choice but with all the speed, the Dawgs would not have an out recorded. Taylor would score on a passed ball and Makai would come up with a nice single scoring Brandon and NJ.
Koa Maas would enter the game on the mound to close out the game for the Dawgs. Koa would make short work out of the Mustangs with a weak come backer and two punch outs to end the game to based on the Run Rule.
"With a weird week of practice indoors I was very impressed with how we took care of business," said Coach Tomek. "This team is selfless and will do whatever it takes to score runs. I think each game defensively we are getting better. As soon as the sun comes out and we are able to work through some defensive stuff at practice this team will be even more dangerous. I'm proud of my pitching staff as all have come in and competed at a high level and worked well through any adversity! I'm excited to get back to work."

Coach Tomek Game Summary and Comments:
The Freshman Bulldogs started their 2026 campaign at home against Bear Creek.
Steven Olson was the starter for the Dawgs. There were some nerves and some excitement the hurler endured in the first inning. Olson would walk the first batter and we would make an error on great bunt by the 2 hole for Bear Creek. Frustration boiled over and after a wild pitch Bear Creek would go up a run on a wild pitch and he would end up hitting that batter. Bear Creek would load the bases after a bloop single to left. Olson had enough and settled in nicely and got the next batter to ground into a double play. Steven would strike out the next batter looking on a perfect pitch.
The Dawgs would come up in the bottom of the first trailing by one. The lead would not last long after walks by Steven Olson and Eli McKeon, Makai Sibayan would come up with one out runners at second and third and hit a scorcher to center field scoring Olson and tying the game. Mckeon would score on a passed ball and the Tracy would take the lead and never look back.
In the top of the second Olson would make quick work of the Bruins, striking out one and getting two weak grounders to catcher Makai Sibayan and second baseman J’quhal Jaden Jackson.
In the bottom of the second the Dawgs would put it on the Bruins. Logan Taylor would lead off the inning hammering a line drive to center field. Taylor would use his wheels and steal second and third and eventually score on a pass ball. Tracy would load the bases after Koa Maas would be hit by a pitch and Montenegro and Olson would walk. Koa scores on a wild pitch and McKeon would single and drive in Montenegro and Olson. Sibayan next up stays hot while hitting another scorcher this time to left. Jackson would be hit by a pitch and just like that Tracy has the bases loaded again. NJ Guiterrez would clear the bases with a double to right center field. Bruins would end up getting out of the inning but the damage was done. Dawgs up 9-1
After the big inning, Tracy seemed to relax a little to much and would cost them 7 runs. Physical and mental errors consumed the dawgs making it a one run ball game. Olsons day would come to an end due to coaches’ pre-determined pitch limit. He would finish with 2 innings pitched, 2 hits, 4 runs, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. “I think Steven pitched well despite the numbers. I think he got an early taste of HS baseball and how to deal with adversity. Steven has a great live arm with a nasty arsenal.”
NJ Gutierrez would come in to pitch for the Bulldogs.
In the bottom of the third a bit of the shock of the previous half inning lingered with the Dawgs. The Bruins would get back into the dugout with no hits and no runs.
NJ would settle in to his second inning of work. Striking out three bruins and walking two.
The Bulldogs would put their foot back on the gas in the bottom of the fourth. Mason Sander lead us off with a walk, and J’quhal Jaden would hit a nuke to center one hopping the fence. Taylor would end up drawing a walk and Koa Maas would drive in JJ and move Taylor into scoring position. Olson would come up with a clutch hit scoring one and McKeon would hit a hard ground ball scoring another Bulldog run. Bulldogs up 14-8!
NJ continued his day by getting the next three Bruins to fly out in order. The game would be called at this point for insufficient light. and the Bulldogs come away with a home opener win in dominant fashion.
With only having a couple weeks of practice and winter sport athletes just getting to come out, I thought we did pretty well. I knew there would be nerves and jitters we had to get out but they overcame adversity and came away with the “Dub”! I am very happy to see how we responded to some silly errors and mental mistakes we made. This team is special; they have a lot of tools. We just need to put our head down and get to work to straighten up the little things. There are big things to come from the Freshman Bulldogs!!!
